Jake’s classes are for everyone from absolute novice to the more experienced enthusiast. Each class, limited to four students, will forge at a traditional blacksmith’s coke hearth and learn to master the tools of the trade.

The Blacksmith Starter: A one day introduction to forging steel. No experience necessary. Students produce a fire poker encompassing all the basic principals of moving hot steel with a hammer.

The Blacksmith Intermediate: A full weekend course. We will apply the skills from the starter course to tool making and more complex projects. Students will produce a punch, a pair of tongs and a candlestick. New techniques such as punching holes, cutting tennons, and the art of fire welding will be introduced.
